Summer Research
- In This Week in Photos, we highlight some of the research projects that students are working on this summer. Here, on Mount Washington in N.H., students join with Geoscience faculty Tara Curtin, Dave Finkelstein, Neil Laird and Nick Metz during the Northeast Partnership for Atmospheric and Related Sciences Research program.
- Jillian VanLare '26 checks the lighting setup in the Deming Theatre before the Somatic Dance Performance. As a research fellow, VanLare worked with Professor of Dance Cynthia Williams.
- Working with Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Chris Fietkiewicz, Khairul Islam ’25 develops code for a neural controlled spider in the Physics Library of Eaton Hall.
- At the Finger Lakes Institute, Research Technician Dylan Meyer ’25 and Lab Manager Trevor Massey swap out a part in a DMA-80 machine, which will be used to measure mercury concentrations in fish.
- As part of a research project with Associate Professor of Biology Brad Cosentino, Chidalu Nwokolo ‘26, Calvin Lincoln ’25 and James Nelson ’26 investigate the predatory response of squirrels.
- Under the guidance of Professor of Chemistry Justin Miller, Emilie Mussi ‘25 and Emily Gorczynski ‘26 use a rotary evaporator to remove solvents from compounds present in a sample.
- Ali Muzaffar ’26 and Kate Barilla ’23, MSM’24 examine pieces of the Collections of Hobart and William Smith as part of a research project with Associate Professor of Art and Architecture Angelique Szymanek.
- In a research lab at Cornell AgriTech, Marcella Venettozzi ‘26 and Samantha Page ’26 examine photos of cherry nectaries taken with a light microscope.
- Under the guidance of Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies May Farnsworth, Abel Guzman '25 translates Latin American literature from Spanish to English.
- Associate Professor of Sociology Ervin Kosta talks with Autumn Washington ‘24 and Mercedes Weigel ’25 about their study of how local wineries use nature to define their Finger Lakes identity.
- Working with Professor of Chemistry Justin Miller, Brogan Dietsche ’25 adds spent materials from an oxidation reaction to a solid waste container.
- Lexi Miller ‘24 and Ande Richardson ‘24 prune grape vines in a greenhouse at Cornell AgriTech. Eventually, the plants will be moved into experimental vineyards for disease resistance research.
- Through a National Science Foundation research experience, Natalie Sandoval ’25 (third from left) poses with other students in Rwanda after installing solar powered lights through life4village.
