Learn more about the Technos program.

For more than 25 years, Hobart and William Smith have partnered with Technos International College in Tokyo, Japan. Through the generosity of the Tanaka family and the Tanaka Memorial Foundation, Technos International Week began in 1992 to encourage cultural understanding from participating guests. The exchange program provides personal connections for students to practice their language skills.

The two-week all expenses paid program offers Hobart and William Smith students a chance to immerse themselves in Japanese culture.

Student participants will be selected on the following criteria:

  • First and Second-year students.
  • Demonstrated interest in Japan, its people, culture and history.
  • An excellent academic record as demonstrated by strong grades and completed classes; 3.0 GPA or better.
  • A willingness to meet people from different cultures and to experience various aspects of Japanese cultures, lifestyles, and cuisines.
  • No previous travel experience in Japan.
  • Applicants must hold or be eligible for a passport from the United States, any EU country, Singapore, Chile, or any nation whose citizens do not need a visa to enter Japan.
