Civic Engagement Scholarship
The Civic Engagement Scholarship is awarded to incoming students who have a demonstrated awareness of and commitment to issues that impact the greater good. Recipients are eligible to renew the award annually by displaying an interest and related investment in the local community; this scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,500 annually to support students who are committed to serving local communities.
Civic Engagement Scholars will have the opportunity to work in a cohort of other recipients to serve in and with organizations that support the Finger Lakes region. With the understanding that service can occur in formal and informal settings, the scholarship review committee welcomes applicants who have a record of innovative approaches to addressing needs identified by individuals or communities.
* To access The Civic Engagement Scholarship application, you must have already applied for admission to Hobart and William Smith. The due date for the scholarship application aligns with your admissions deadline (December 1t for Early Action / Early Decision, March 1t for Regular Decision).

These learning objectives aim to equip the Civic Engagement Scholarship recipients with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to make meaningful contributions to the community while fostering personal growth and a lifelong dedication to community engagement and service.
Expectations:
As a civic scholar you will belong to a cohort of other civic scholars who share a similar commitment to service, leadership and engagement work. The Civic Scholars will navigate the next four years at times together, but always in support of one another’s initiatives. As a civic scholar you are expected to complete a minimum of 10 hours (or attendance at three civic programs/speakers) of service each semester, although many of our civic scholars far exceed this!
