Financial AidCost Calculators
An HWS education
is within reach
We understand that college is an expensive endeavor. That’s why we offer extensive scholarships and grants to students who are likely to thrive on our campus. 96% of HWS students receive financial aid with an average award of $49,463.
To help your family estimate what your college costs might be at Hobart and William Smith, we have a calculator available:
- Net Price Calculator
The HWS net price calculator is a comprehensive tool, requiring financial information from your family. The result is a single estimate of your student’s financial aid eligibility.
The results estimated by the Net Price Calculator and are confidential and are not used during our review of your student’s application for admission. Please keep in mind that while it provides estimates, the Office of Financial Aid will ultimately determine your financial aid eligibility with more complete information.
If you have questions about the estimate, or about financial aid in general, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@hws.edu.
FEDERAL DIRECT PLUS
LOANS ORIGINATION FEE CALCULATOR
Federal Direct PLUS Loans are loans that graduate students and parents of dependent undergraduate students can use to help pay for college. PLUS loans can help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.
The origination fee* is subtracted by the Department of Education from the borrowed amount prior to disbursement. If you wish to cover the origination fee in your loan amount, enter the amount you plan to borrow for the full year and this calculator will calculate the total loan amount needed, including the origination fee.
*The Federal Direct PLUS Loan program charges an origination fee of 4.228% for loans disbursed between October 1, 2020, and before October 1, 2023.
This calculator will assist you in determining the amount of the origination fee and how much to request if you would like the origination fee included in the loan. Parent and graduate PLUS loan borrowers are encouraged to request the full annual amount they intend to borrow, rather than borrowing by semester. The PLUS loan application can be completed at https://studentaid.gov/plus-app/. Please use the PLUS Loan borrower's FSA ID to login and apply.
This calculation is based on two equal disbursements for fall and spring semesters.
