1 December 2023 • Alums Synnott ’22, MSM’23 Launches Career with Suffolk Construction By Annette Stephens '24
After completing the Master of Science in Management program, Mark Synnott has begun a career with Suffolk Construction.
Mark Synnott ’22, MSM ’23 is using skills he learned at HWS to settle into a project engineer position with Suffolk Construction in Boston, Mass.
Synnott graduated with a double major in economics and French and Francophone studies and a minor in international relations. A member of the Statesmen lacrosse team, he credits the demands of his rigorous academic and athletic schedule with his progress to date.
“My drive to learn is one I found at HWS; it encourages me to continue asking questions, a quality I need in my role today,” says Synnott. “It is essential to maintain a strong grasp on time management in [my current job] role, a skill that I mastered as a Hobart lacrosse player and double major during my time on campus.”
As part of a rotational training initiative called the Career Start Program, Synnott serves as an assistant project manager for the construction of a 13-story lab tower in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood. In this role, he works with the company’s telecom and security trades, while assisting in budgeting, contracting and operations management for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades. “Think of this as all of the non-structural systems in a building, including everything from Wi-Fi to fire suppression, to electricity, to incredibly complex lab ventilation systems,” he explains.

On campus, Synnott was a member of the French Club and Finance Society and volunteered for Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes. He held internships at Sunbelt Rentals, Inc., Corporate & Investor Advisors, and The Ouroboros Group.
During the Master of Science in Management program, Synnott completed coursework that gave him background on how companies manage large, multi-faceted projects; courses included Management Strategies for a Changing World and Leadership and Innovation Theory.
