19 January 2024 • Athletics Cornforth ’24 Embarks on Financial Career at Bracebridge By Annette Stephens '24

Ava Cornforth ’24, an economics major and captain of the Heron ice hockey team, has secured a position at Bracebridge Capital.

Following a summer internship with the investment firm Bracebridge Capital, Ava Cornforth ’24 has accepted a full-time position with the Boston-based hedge fund company. Following her graduation, Cornforth will take on the role of an investment operations specialist, contributing to the management, preparation, review and reporting of daily cash and securities.

Last summer during her internship, Cornforth worked with Bracebridge’s operations department on the cash desk. She says the experience was paramount in her decision to start her career there.

“Bracebridge believes that their greatest asset is the people who work there which was made evident during my few months with the firm. I enjoyed being surrounded by driven individuals with high expectations as it pushed me to be my best,” says Cornforth, an economics major.

She says faculty in the Economics Department and a broad range of courses such as “International Trade” and “Natural Resources and Energy” helped prepare her for the position, as well as discussions during Investment Club gatherings on topics such as financial instruments, valuation strategies and presenting stock pitches.

In addition to her major, Cornforth has a double minor in French & Francophone studies and Media & Society. She serves as a Media & Society student ambassador, Writing Colleague and is on the board of the Investment Club. As a captain for the William Smith ice hockey team, she has played in all 13 games to start this season, posting a career-high three goals and four assists. Overall, Cornforth has played in 59 career games, recording five goals and 10 assists for 15 total points. She has been named an American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholar twice and is a three-time conference All-Academic pick.
