9 May 2024 Pattillo ’24 To Join Northern Trust Asset Management Team By Ella Weiss ’24
Thanks to course work in economics and an internship experience, Sofia Pattillo ’24 is ready for the asset management team at Northern Trust.
Following an internship with the company last summer, Economics major Sofia Pattillo ’24 has secured a position with Northern Trust Corporation as part of their asset management team. Based in Chicago, Pattillo will participate in three rotations as an associate portfolio analyst, an associate investment analyst in investment strategy or equity and an associate analyst in alternative investments.
Last summer, Pattillo worked in hedge fund services as part of the Northern Trust Asset Servicing team. "The internship was an incredible learning experience, providing me so much exposure to the operations conducted by a financial institution," says Pattillo, who is a member of the Liberty League Champion William Smith field hockey team. “I got to experience the incredible culture at Northern which led me to apply for a position following my graduation this May.”
She says she learned about the internship from former field hockey teammate Corinna Dorr ’23, who is employed at Northern Trust as an analyst on the Client Implementation Hedge Fund Services team in Chicago.
Pattillo says she discovered her desire to pursue a career in asset management after taking "MacroEconomics," "International Macro" and "Management and Regulation of Financial Institutions." She thanks Economics Department faculty, particularly Evren Damar, Christina Houseworth and Jennifer Tessendorf, for their mentorship.
On campus, Pattillo is a member of Public Leadership Education Network and studied abroad in Galway, Ireland last spring. As a member of the William Smith field hockey team, she played in all 22 games during her senior season, recording nine points on three goals and three assists. Pattillo was credited with the game-winning goal against Lebanon Valley. A four-year member of the field hockey team, she has guided the Herons to back-to-back Liberty League championships. She has played in 59 career games, recording 19 goals, nine assists and 47 points. Pattillo is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
