Welcome to Student Employment at Hobart and William Smith Colleges!
The Office of Human Resources posts open student job opportunities on behalf of our academic and administrative campus partners and manages the post-hiring employment paperwork.
FINDING AND APPLYING TO JOBS
At Hobart and William Smith, students conduct their own job search to identify opportunities that best fit their interests, skills, and class schedules. Students may seek jobs both on and off campus. Students interested in working on or off campus should search the available job listings below. On-campus jobs are posted through Handshake, students should log in to apply.
Not sure how to find or apply for an on-campus job? Review the “Step by Step Student Employment Process” guide for more information on the application and hiring process for on-campus jobs.
Submitted applications will be reviewed by the hiring department and they will contact students for interviews. Once hired, the hiring department will contact Human Resources who will complete the hire process in the employee management system (PeopleSoft). Human Resources will contact the student with information regarding time submission and any steps or paperwork required to process their hiring as a Student Employee.
Human Resources receives student hire requests from the hiring manager. Students are not hired into a position until they have completed new hire paperwork and have presented their acceptable documents to HR. Students (and their direct supervisor) will receive an automated email message when the student is hired into a position in PeopleSoft.
FEDERAL WORK STUDY AND STUDENT EMPLOYMENT
The receipt of a Federal Work Study or institutional Work Study award is not a guarantee of funds or employment. Work study is not deducted from your bill. Work study is a part of the self-help portion of your financial aid package. Students receiving work study awards are encouraged, but not required, to work on-campus. If interested in on-campus employment, students should be proactive in searching for and applying to open positions. Students eligible for federal work study have priority during the first two weeks of each semester to secure a position. Inquiries about work study awards and financial aid should be directed to Financial Aid (Office of Financial Aid, 315-781-3315 or finaid@hws.edu).
