Housing Abroad
Housing options vary by program. Some offer homestays, where you will live with a local family, while others may provide accommodations in residence halls with local students or in apartments with other students participating in your program. In some cases, a homestay is a required part of the program, offering the best way to immerse yourself in your host city and culture. It’s also a great way to build connections and a support system in a new place.
In many locations you will be commuting - this is simply a way of life abroad and trains, buses, and trams are typically reliable, safe, and easy to use. Give yourself time to learn to navigate the system and you might even find you learn to appreciate the time each day to relax after classes.
Off-campus housing that meets the Colleges’ requirements is difficult to find and so housing/roommate assignments abroad will not be changed except in the event of a documented medical need or safety concern as determined by HWS in consultation with the partner institution abroad. Ask program staff abroad for help if you are having difficulty with your housing. They are terrific at solving problems and if a move is truly warranted, they will facilitate this. Under no circumstances may you secure your own housing or live in non-approved accommodations outside of the program’s parameters.
For more information on which housing options are offered for each program, consult the individual program brochure pages on the CGE website. You will be provided with further housing information for your program upon acceptance.
